Kismet – Prologue

If Socrates believed in myths, why can’t I?

The plane was landing in Gatwick Airport while her thoughts were taking off, freely flying away crisscrossing the Atlantic, going deep down its abyssal relief. On rapid flashes, she traveled to ancient epochs witnessing wars, the legacy of the wise, and the exotic experience of ancient wines savored in Pre-Raphaelite settings. Her mind accompanied the never ending changing of the seasons demarcated by the fragrance of blooming flowers, the aridness of the sun, the yellowing of nature, and the softness of the snow falling down on earth. Beatrice went through it all, and before her thoughts rested in the lands of Merlin, somewhere in the remote Welsh countryside, she still thought:

Socrates gave Phaedrus a rational explanation for Oreithya’s disappearance: “She fell down a precipice pushed by the strength of the North Wind – Boreas”. Nevertheless, he did not discuss Pegasus, Centaurs, Gorgons, and other uncanny creatures. He did not argue the base of truth that lies under each tale of the Greek Mythology, as he would have not contested the dogmas of the Church. Therefore, why should I strive on what my heart has been feeling, and my mind has been seeing since I was so very young. Why shall I ever dwell between the real and the unreal, trying to set limitations where they do not exist; debating on other people’s standards and beliefs instead of allowing myself to find my own understanding?
